Motivated from the byword that teamwork makes the dream work, the MHAM community recently held its annual sportsfest solely known as MHAMurals at Don Bosco Technical College-Cebu (formerly Don Bosco Technology Center Inc.) Pleasant Homes Subdivision, Punta Princesa, Cebu City last August 12, 2018.
Started at 8:30 in the morning, the whole day activity was part of the 4-day MHAM DAYS CELEBRATIONS in memory of the late founder.
As a manifestation of camaraderie and sportsmanship in the name of sports, this year’s MHAMurals attended by the faculty members, administrative personnel, non-teaching staff and aspiring doctors have brought the MHAM community together to achieve a common goal to bring unity made and excelled in strength.
Unleashing their strength as teams bearing their batch taglines such as ‘Fear the Herd’, ‘Silently Soaring’, ‘Hear us Roar’ and ‘Vincere Est Vivere’, the INSIGNIS, VITALIS, RESILIERE and NEXUS teams uniquely unified themselves in the spirit of belongingness and in upholding the tenets and precepts of a true sportsman.
Spearheaded by the MHAM Student Council officers for the academic year 2018-2019, the annual sportsfest was officially opened by the Chairman of Physiology Department, Dr. Rainelda Veloso in her welcome address.
“Welcome to the second activity of our MHAM Days Celebrations and I think that this is the most awaited part of all our school activities for students because we have no scheduled exams and no lectures for three to four days. I am encouraging all especially the faculty members and all the students to participate in all of our activities because this is the time to have fun to be acquainted to your fellow MHAM students and to strengthen our bonds with each other and enhance our sportsmanship”, Dr. Veloso said.
Hosted by Aicyd Jax Galang of Vitalis and Marc Vision Capunong of Resiliere, the Oath of Sportsmanship was led by the Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Department faculty member, Dr. Jan Michael Lao together with all the athletes from the four vibrant teams.
Putting their hearts and souls into the games, the torch bearers for Insignis, Vitalis, Resiliere and Nexus teams slayed the moment as they carried the ceremonial torches ignited by the flame that encompasses discipline, respect, integrity, fairness, courage and persistence with the MHAM way.
To keep the momentum up for the whole day event, a Batch Yell Competition added more color and fun with cheers and chants to fire up and motivate the athletes for each team.
Simple, short, but sassy, the batch yell competition was judged by the Department of Clinical and Pathology faculty, Dr. Chamberlain Agtuca; Department of Surgery faculty, Dr. Ted Marcery Gallo; and Department of Biochemistry faculty, Dr. Charles Cabataña.
Showcasing their best shirt design for each year level, the Batch Shirt Competition judged by the College Registrar, Dr. Luditha Lumapat-Pe; Department of Anatomy and Histology faculty, Dr. Flora Cabrera; and Chairman of Physiology Department, Dr. Rainelda Veloso also reechoed the cheers and yells from their ever-supportive batchmates.
Based from the four entries represented by pairs, the overall visual appeal demonstrated their artistic ability, graphic design, creativity and bearing which were incorporated on their designated timeless colors; green for the first year, maroon for the second year, blue for the third year and gray for the fourth year, respectively.
As a unifying tool to show teamwork with such shared love for sports, the ball games and other popular games completed whole day affair that truly developed the aspiring doctors’ social skills, discipline and physical fitness.
Immensely inspired to showcase their skills and abilities in the name of sports, the winners of this year’s MHAMurals will represent the school to compete for the Central Visayas Medlympics to be initiated by the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges (APMC) in Central Visayas region.
Known as the ferocious MHAMDragons, the MHAM athletic team showed their unbeatable unified force from the recent Medlympics and brought home several wins in both men and women categories.
A timely event to value the hindsight of the overall supportive and optimistic vision of individual team members, the MHAMurals created a bond not only for the sports enthusiasts but to the MHAM community who were joining together on one sweet, sunny, sporty and soulful Sunday.
Embracing unity in diversity be it a simple act of celebrating with one another, the MHAMDragons’ fighting spirit ablazed from the breathable dragon fire known as ‘Dracarys’ will unshakably reign with flames for the next season. Bearing the tagline ‘We Are MHAM’, the MHAMurals have truly unleashed the MHAM spirit of camaraderie and unity in variety with the gracious winners and good losers all the time. (Ana Liza Abao)
