
MHAM CM Alumnus: Dr. Anant Karalak
All through the years, countless MHAM CM graduates in various fields of specialization and professional health education have proven that they indeed were products of an unparalleled home of achievers, here and abroad.
This time, Dr. Anant Karalak- a Matias H. Aznar Memorial College of Medicine Batch ’81 graduate makes news upon his designation as the President of Thai International Academy of Pathology.
This was divulged by Professor and Chairperson of MHAM CM Pathology Department, Dr. Annette Salillas who was present during the 56th IAP Thailand Annual Meeting 2016 last November 2 to 4 in Bangkok, Thailand.

“It is very heart warming with a sense of pride that a MHAM CM graduate such as Dr. Anant Karalak is highly regarded in his own country in the field of Pathology”, said Dr. Salillas in an interview.
Dr. Salillas, who presented her poster entitled, “Metastatic Spermatic Cord Tumor presenting as an Inguinal Mass: A Case Report” during the annual meeting said that Dr. Karalak will carry out the designation post for Thailand’s International Academy of Pathology for three years.
Dedicated to the advancement of Pathology through educational exchanges worldwide, the International Academy of Pathology particularly in Asia holds its yearly gathering with forum for the presentation and discussion in pathologic processes and evaluation of scientific, methodological and technological methods.
This 59-year old Thai alumnus was also a diplomat of Anatomic Pathology, Institute of Pathology, Ministry of Health in 1986. Since 2006, he also holds the Vice Presidency of the Thai Society of Cytology up to the present and the current Head of Pathology Division, National Cancer Institute, in Bangkok.
In 1995, Dr. Karalak also took a short course training in Immunohistochemistry in Staining, Flinders Medical Centre, Australia. He was also the former Deputy Director of National Cancer Institute from 2008 to 2015 and the President of Oncological Society of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of her Majesty the Queen from 2012 to 2015.
His latest contribution being published was the “Detection of human papillomavirus in male and female urine by electrochemical DNA chip and PCR sequencing”.
At present, this MHAM alumnus is also in profound preparation for the Thai-Japanese Workshop to be held this month. (Ana Liza Abao)
