WEAREMHAM: 2016-2017 Student Council Governor Datu Nur-Jhun Salik<\/p><\/div>\n

As the MHAM CM Student Body welcomes the new set of officers for the S.Y. 2017-2018, there is so much to\u00a0look upon and reckon from the previous governance\u00a0under the leadership of former\u00a0Governor Datu Nur-Jhun Salik.<\/p>\n

Known by his dedicated service in the Student Council, this 29-year old ‘dauntless datu’ is now setting off from the innumerable commitment as he led the Student Body for a year.<\/p>\n

“<\/em>My responsibilities in the council have been part of my daily routine as a student and somehow, it brought me to feel sadness, excitement, relief and gratefulness rolled into one, as I leave my post from the SC office. The moment I assumed the position, I kept\u00a0reminding myself that I have to change on how the student sees the SC. I need them to believe in me, that we are for the students and by the students. On the other hand, I know that the Student Body is\u00a0in good hands with the new set of officers headed by President-elect, Louie Lopez”, <\/span><\/em>said\u00a0<\/span>Salik.<\/span><\/p>\n

This incoming senior clerk impeccably expressed that his commitment\u00a0in the council has been part of his daily routine for a year as a medical student. “It’s sad but I know that the SC and the students will be well-managed\u00a0with the new set of officers and I believe that Mr. Lopez will continue the good things we have started.\u00a0He was also been part of the wonderful journey we had this year as SC officers and he\u00a0knows the needs of the students”, <\/em>he added.<\/div>\n

In and out: Elected\u00a0SC Governors\u00a0Louie Lopez and\u00a0Datu Nur-Jhun Salik<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

As the Student Council focuses its projects not only in catering the needs of the students but also in answering the needs of the community, Salik was able to led the SC officers with remarkable projects during his governance. Primarily, they administered\u00a0the basic needs of the students by providing water dispensers for AVR 1 to 5 to provide an easy access of drinking clean and safe water in\u00a0an eco-friendly way. In addition, they also donated a water dispenser at the Microbiology Department, additional study tables and as well as the necessities for comfort rooms. Moreover, they took part and supported the acquisition of the MHAM school bus for students’ use.<\/p>\n

WEAREMHAM: SC officers 2016-2017<\/p><\/div>\n

Aside from catering the needs of the students in general, the 2016-2017 set of officers also conducted two Blood Donation Drive in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) VII Blood Center with one hundred bags\u00a0of blood units being collected. This yearly project serves as a purpose to cope up for the high demand for blood transfusion in the region. According to Salik, the bloodletting activities were\u00a0among the\u00a0highlights of the Student Council projects before the year ends.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The ‘dauntless datu’ with some of the Shoe Box Project grateful recipients<\/p><\/div>\n

Last year, a joint venture of the annual Shoe Box Project and the Medical Mission was conducted by the Student Council together with the Community Extension Services Office (CESO) dubbed as “Pasko sa Kabukiran” in Barangay Calidngan, Carcar City. Joined by his fellow dedicated officers, they provided 1,100 shoe boxes to\u00a0elementary school children\u00a0and 25 Christmas goods for 25 lucky families chosen randomly.\u00a0The Shoe Box Project was chosen and awarded as the 2016 Service Project of the Year by the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges-Student Network (APMC-SN).<\/p>\n

As he looked back across the most signifying moments of being a leader, Salik dauntlessly expressed that the need to change the perspective of the students towards the Student Council was indeed a challenging task. Developing a strategic plan in addressing the issues such as\u00a0the misused of the college funds was one of the major concerns he had to focus as a leader. “Being\u00a0open-minded to my fellow officers and in collaborating to any\u00a0possible\u00a0solution in addressing the needs of the studentry has been my innate\u00a0fervor. With confidence, we have solved various problems with good comments and feedbacks that in some way or another were indeed both\u00a0rewarding and fulfilling. I am deeply honored by\u00a0the admiration and good remarks from faculty members and from my co-students as well”, <\/em>he concluded.<\/p>\n

2016-2017 Student Council Officers<\/p><\/div>\n

As this former governor\u00a0is now embarking into a new challenge of being a senior clerk in order to fulfill his dream to become a licensed and dedicated physician,\u00a0<\/em>he was also overwhelmed by the praises and appreciation inside the campus.\u00a0<\/i>Wherever he may be, he will\u00a0always be motivated\u00a0to become the change that he wanted to see and be himself by learning and taking the valuable examples from the leaders he always admired.<\/p>\n

Soon-to-be doctors<\/p><\/div>\n

Through the years, the MHAM CM Student Body has initiated and contributed various projects and significant missions along with their leadership goals to empower others. Rooted by his innate passion to serve through\u00a0good governance and transparency, his dedicated services will be\u00a0a legacy to behold in the Student Council Office and to the Student Body. Needless to say, his sovereign name title, Datu, used for native royalty in Mindanao will always reign\u00a0just as he desires to continue to inspire others through selfless dedication and profound commitment.\u00a0(Ana Liza Abao)<\/strong><\/p>\n
