{"id":11063,"date":"2016-12-08T16:44:04","date_gmt":"2016-12-08T08:44:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mham.edu.ph\/wp\/mhammedicine\/?p=11063"},"modified":"2016-12-12T15:50:08","modified_gmt":"2016-12-12T07:50:08","slug":"mhams-medical-mission-a-legacy-to-uphold-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mham.edu.ph\/wp\/mhammedicine\/mhams-medical-mission-a-legacy-to-uphold-on\/","title":{"rendered":"MHAM&#8217;s Medical Mission: A legacy to uphold on"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_11064\" style=\"width: 466px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11064\" class=\"wp-image-11064\" src=\"https:\/\/mham.edu.ph\/wp\/mhammedicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/edited25.jpg\" alt=\"edited25\" width=\"456\" height=\"273\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11064\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">When the mission is away, there the MHAM mission-carrier is always on its way&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A Medical Mission composed with\u00a0twenty-four dedicated physician-professors and aspiring\u00a0physicians highlighted the whole day event of the &#8220;Pasko sa Kabukiran&#8221; in Barangay Calidngan, Carcar City last November 30, 2016.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Started at eight-thirty in the morning until noon, the Free Medical Clinic was part of the MHAM CM&#8217;s\u00a0Community Extension Services\u2019 institutionalized programs to partner communities. This year, an upland barangay in Carcar City were the recipients\u00a0of the mission- a commitment and legacy that MHAM continuously upholds to, throughout the years.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11137\" style=\"width: 563px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11137\" class=\"wp-image-11137\" src=\"https:\/\/mham.edu.ph\/wp\/mhammedicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC_0591-1.jpg\" alt=\"dsc_0591\" width=\"553\" height=\"367\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11137\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A cheerful server makes WEAREMHAM happier&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Selected students mostly from the Student Council and Senior Clerks joined this year&#8217;s significant mission\u00a0as part of their\u00a0exposure and an opportunity for them to have a glimpse\u00a0of their future field in the real world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For a 27-year old aspiring doctor and the current Student Council Executive Vice President Geemarlyn Omar, being part of the Medical Team was one of her remarkable experiences this school year as a third\u00a0year student. Omar, who is an Undergraduate in\u00a0BS Zoology and a Post Graduate in\u00a0MS Biology from Zamboanga del Sur, earnestly desires to help the people in her locality especially those who cannot easily access to\u00a0health facilities due to financial constraints.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>&#8220;It was very heartwarming to be part of the MHAM team because it allows me to be exposed to the community. And as an aspiring doctor it served as a\u00a0venue for me to apply what I have learned much more in far flung areas, and not just in a typical\u00a0hospital setting&#8221;, <\/em>said Omar in an interview.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11129\" style=\"width: 788px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11129\" class=\"wp-image-11129\" src=\"https:\/\/mham.edu.ph\/wp\/mhammedicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/edited1-5.jpg\" alt=\"edited1\" width=\"778\" height=\"315\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11129\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Always ready to serve: MHAM CM Student Council Officers<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the other hand, a lone Interventional Cytophatologist in the country, Dr. Annette Salillas performed the Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy with Thyroid Masses to two\u00a0grateful Calidngan resident-patients. Such was just part of the many\u00a0services that the MHAM doctors carried out their mission and duties bounded with profound dedication.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11069\" style=\"width: 327px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11069\" class=\"wp-image-11069\" src=\"https:\/\/mham.edu.ph\/wp\/mhammedicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/edited17.jpg\" alt=\"edited17\" width=\"317\" height=\"281\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11069\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">BEFORE: Dr. Annette Salillas with one of her patients on Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy with Thyroid Masses<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_11128\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11128\" class=\"wp-image-11128\" src=\"https:\/\/mham.edu.ph\/wp\/mhammedicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/edited30.jpg\" alt=\"edited30\" width=\"390\" height=\"244\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11128\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">AFTER: A grateful resident-patient after having been treated on Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy with Thyroid Masses<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the half-day Medical Mission, there were 100 slots given to adult patients while 100 slots for children as well.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11091\" style=\"width: 377px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11091\" class=\"wp-image-11091\" src=\"https:\/\/mham.edu.ph\/wp\/mhammedicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1727.jpg\" alt=\"img_1727\" width=\"367\" height=\"244\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11091\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;A good\u00a0giver is a good medicine&#8221; (MHAM students on their mission)<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While it is a reality that access to treatment is normally limited outside the city, the cost of medications along with the distances that residents have to travel to obtain care\u00a0have been answered as the Calidngan patients were provided with free medicines and multivitamins\u00a0aside from the free medical check-up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Being the youngest and lone full-time MHAM doctor-professor, Dr. Jan Michael Lao\u00a0always reminds himself that\u00a0the purpose of being a physician in the first place is to serve.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>&#8220;Every Medical Mission serves as a venue for the application of medical knowledge especially on the part of the students and an opportunity to offer free services for free for practicing doctors. Despite of our busy schedules, this has been a notable moment to show compassion to the poor and to serve them without counting the cost. It is always a venue to unite students and professors for a cause and to help the less fortunate. In the midst of such thousands\u00a0who needlessly suffer from illnesses that can be so easily avoided, a\u00a0life-saving to life-changing Medical Team can alleviate human suffering, bringing hope to the less fortunate.
