MHAM produces topnotcher for four years in a row with 124 successful examinees

For 4 years in a row, MHAM MADE IT AGAIN…

Beaming with pride in keeping its legacy to produce competent mavens of the field, MHAM made it again as another product placed on the second spot among the ten highest places in the March 2018 Physician Licensure Examination (PLE) which was administered at Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) testing centers in Manila, Baguio, Cebu and Zamboanga last March 4-5 and 11-12, 2018.

Following a grand slam that made MHAM continued to soar high along its growing years in size and stature, Dr. Jay Ruyeras Orehuela marked another medical milestone as he was hailed being the second placer with a rating of 88.00% in the recent PLE after the official results were released in three working days from the last day of examination.

This year, MHAM has produced one hundred twenty-four new Matias doctors who will swear the Hippocratic Oath as registered and licensed physicians in the upcoming oathtaking ceremonies.

As announced, 1,067 (66.65%) successfully passed the examinations out of 1,601 examinees nationwide, administered by the Board of Medicine headed by its Chair, Dr. Eleanor J. Galvez. Dr. Eleanor B. Almoro, Dr. Edgardo T. Fernando, Dr. Miguel L. Noche Jr., Dr. Ma. Graciela Garayblas-Gonzaga and Dr. Clarita C. Maaño served as members, respectively.

MHAM topnotchers…

As an institution’s treasure is in its scholars, MHAM, for four years in a row takes pride with its graduate-scholars who showed exemplary performances in the Physician Licensure Examinations. Dr. Orehuela will now be joining the previous topnotchers, namely: 2015 1st placer, Dr. Venil Lovely Bolambao; 2016 1st placer, Dr. Al Patrick Alajas; 2016 9th placer, Dr. Francine Diloy; and 2017 4th placer, Dr. Maude Tabigue in the line of board placers’ feat.

We Are MHAM: A pre-birthday celebration for MHAM President and Chairman of the Board, Mrs. Elma Aznar-Sierra with the 2nd placer in the recent PLE, faculty members and Student Council

In a recent interview with this year’s second placer on the occasion of a pre-birthday celebration of the MHAM President and Chairman of the Board, Mrs. Elma Aznar-Sierra, the 27-year old topnotcher expressed his indebted gratitude to his Alma Mater and mentors including the people who rooted for him with high hopes that he can place on the top.

With this year’s 2nd placer in the March 2018 PLE, Dr. Jay R. Orehuela in an interview…

“When I was young it has always been a passion of mine to know and to be able to understand human anatomy and the processes in the human body as I took experiments on frogs and rats and dissected them. Aside from that it has been my passion to help which I believe, is the essence of taking up Medicine. I am not trying to lift my own chair but somehow I aimed and hoped for this with much gratitude. If you work hard for something, think positive and hopeful I think it can really be achieved”, Dr. Orehuela said.

A consistent academic achiever and a native from Calape, Bohol, this 2nd placer graduated as class valedictorian during his elementary and secondary years.

In 2010, he graduated BS in Nursing as Magna Cum Laude at Holy Name University-Tagbilaran City. Like the previous MHAM topnotchers, Dr. Jay, as he is fondly called, was a full scholar recipient and finished Doctor of Medicine in 2015 as Magna Cum Laude.

Interview with the Top 2: Jay R. Orehuela, MD

“I may have some achievements in my life in the academic field but until now I still question my competence and skills but I feel very thankful knowing that there were people who were rooting for me and who truly believed in my capacity which is very heartwarming”, he added.

A founder’s scholarship grant recipient, Dr. Orehuela never failed to express his gratitude to everyone especially to the institution and to his mentors during the luncheon gathering attended by the President and Chairman of the Board, faculty, employees and Student Council.

“I am thankful for my parents and for my institution for the chance and privilege to treat and heal lives. I would always be indebted to the institution for having granted me a free education and that is something that I will forever be grateful for. I also would like to take this opportunity to thank my mentors and it is really true that you could hear the voices of your mentors while answering the exam. I could hear the voice of Dr. Librando while answering Anatomy but the loudest voice that I could hear was the voice of Dr. Berame”, said the topnotcher that drew laughter from the audience.

Matias scholar-topnotcher: Jay R. Orehuela, MD

Having been exposed and experienced to rub elbows to some of the best students in Manila during his internship, this Matias scholar encouraged the students who were present to read books and urged them to give high respect to the very noble profession in Medicine. For him, there would never be a profession which is as challenging, as privileged and as noble to someone who can save lives in the service of humanity.

Words from the Top 2…

“We can compete if we just read books because we read the same books anyway so let’s get rid of that mediocrity, that barrier, that false thinking that ‘I come from this modest school’ or ‘I cannot be this great’. Let not fear prevent us from achieving the things that we want and for being great not just in Medicine but in life in general. For the students who are here, you can make it and you can assess yourself whether you are ready or not and if you feel that you need sometime, it’s not a loose on your part. Sometimes success does not just require talent and skills but success requires preparation”, he concluded.
