According to the MHAM Board of Trustees and Corporate Treasurer, Dr. Carlito L. Astillero, the faculty as mentors should encourage and give moral support to the mentees much more when they are going to take the board examination. Some of the class of 2016 gathered inside the campus for a spiritual upliftment prior to the board examination.

Interview with MHAM alumnus and December 1968 Board of Physicians 9th placer, Carlito L. Astillero, FPSMID, FASCP, PAFP
“We are happy and proud to produce forty-six doctors in spite of a very short preparation and we are ready and willing to help those who have failed so that they can have proper review with encouragement and moral support”, said Dr. Astillero in an interview.
In addition, he is also planning to propose new policies and procedures for proper direction prior to any PLE. “We have to go forward under the guidance of proper policies and procedures and we have to have a goal to be reached particularly in taking the board examination. On the other hand, I am in favor with our open admission practice because by doing so we can give chance to those who were not doing good in the beginning but they work hard and become successful in the latter part. We need to give chance to anybody, rich and poor, weak and not weak but with strict retention policy”, he concluded.
Looking back, this 76-year old MHAM alumnus was the 9th placer during the December 1968 Board of Physicians whose batch obtained a 100% passing rate among other medical institutions in the country. Dr. Astillero’s batch made history as they placed in the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th highest places, producing five topnotchers in the year 1968. To date, his several exemplary achievements, awards, contributions and achievements have become an inspiration to all aspiring physicians and employees as well.
Growing in size and stature, the September 2017 PLE marks another momentous event of the school’s legacy in producing dedicated MHAM mavens of the field bearing the tagline, We Are MHAM. These Matias doctors are challenged to fulfill their duties making themselves available to the underprivileged and marginalized in the society.
