Because if we all will be working together in strengthening the cooperative’s movement, we will surely become a powerful force in building a progressive and prosperous future for all”, said Dr. Veloso in her welcome address.
A concurrent Cooperative Development Specialist (CDS) and is connected with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) since 1995, Mrs. Elisa Conoso, graced the event as the Inducting Officer for the new set of officers this year. In an interview with the guest speaker, she divulged that this time as amended by law, a cooperative should start to achieve its main objective which is the social needs of the members rather than the economic needs as structured before. “Actually, this MHAM Multipurpose Cooperative as a registered name is classified as micro level, having a 3 million and less total assets. According to its concept based from the Revised Code RA 9520 as the legal basis, a cooperative like MHAM has to achieve its objective in social, economic, cultural needs and aspirations”, said Conoso.

The charging of the new coop members who includes the board of directors and its officers, management staff and committee members was led by the outgoing chairman, Dr. Carlito Astillero. He was also acknowledged during the program for having been awarded as an “Outstanding Individual” conferred by Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña on the occasion of the 80th Cebu City Charter Day Anniversary last February this year. His indebted contribution and deep commitment in promoting quality medical education and for having been organized the MHAM College of Medicine Multipurpose Cooperative have made him a recipient of another exemplary lifetime award.
In his farewell speech, this 76-year old founder of the MHAM Multipurpose Cooperative who is also dubbed as the ‘father of perpetual help’ among MHAM employees emotionally expressed his gratitude for the opportunities to serve in uplifting the well being of the members in response to their needs with possible ways and means in achieving inclusive development to all.
“With the new set of officers I am very positive that I can go and leave in peace”, said Dr. Astillero with a grin.
This year, he is extending his service as one of the cooperative’s board of directors and will continue to seek ways and means in order to expand the quality services to the needs of times.

Inducting Officer, Mrs. Elisa Conoso of the Cooperative Development Authority…
Meanwhile, in her keynote speech, the guest speaker expressed her warmest congratulatory message to all the coop officers who were challenged to perform their duties and functions with the hope that each will become strength for the benefit of all the members.
“I am glad that I am invited by this cooperative and it is now completed from the board to the committees. Hopefully that next year, you as a cooperative will grow as a small category although a timeline for a micro coop is to stay less than five years. At this time, my reminder for the cooperative is that, the strength comes from the set of the newly-elected positions although they have different functions. As we reviewed the organizational of structures coming from the general assembly, we have the elected positions of the board of directors as the overall administrator of the cooperative, the audit committee will perform the conduct of audit for the financial and non-financial tasks and also the conduct of the rule of election committee to convince potential officers to run and administer the cooperative”, said Conoso.
Moreover, she challenged all the officers to aim towards a more progressive cooperative and reminded everyone that each member is strength to one another, together with the potential strength of all the elected and appointed officers.

The new chairman of the MHAM Multipurpose Cooperative, Mr. Pedro Pañares…
Incoming Chairman, Mr. Pedro Pañares also expressed his sentiments as he accepted the challenge to continue to sustain the cooperative’s multi-financial services as its mission.
“In silence I accepted the challenge and as our inducting officer has challenged us to move to a higher level, so by next year, we should aspire to become a small category and no longer a micro level. Thus, we should double our effort for this business and this challenge is not only mine but to all of us”, said the incoming chairman.
A certificate of appreciation was presented to the Inducting Officer by the outgoing chairman, Dr. Carlito Astillero, who in turned, was awarded with a special plague of appreciation for his outstanding performance, leadership and sacrifices especially in organizing the Multipurpose Cooperative for the benefit of the needs of the members and their families in the next decade.
