Six Thai nationals headed by the Ministry of Council of the Consular Section from the Embassy of Thailand visited the MHAM Redemptorist plaza campus in a courtesy call last September 22, 2017 in the afternoon.

Headed by Thai Minister Councilor Somjai Taphaopong, they personally met and discussed certain concerns with Thai students who are currently enrolled in MHAM together with the MHAM Corporate Treasurer, Dr. Carlito Astillero; VP for Academics, Dr. Arlene Diaz, College Dean, Dr. Ma. Socorro Manaloto; and Associate Dean for Basic Sciences, Dr. Allan Librando.

During the brief discussion, the Minister Councilor reiterated that the Consulate’s duty is to protect the Thai nationals abroad and check their status including the number of Thai people in Cebu aside from other parts of the country. She also made a request to the school for the lists of Thai students who graduated from MHAM.
Dr. Ma. Socorro Manaloto and Dr. Arlene Diaz also gave recent updates of MHAM particularly on the on-going construction of the new building in Banawa which will become the new home to all MHAM students and employees by next year.

This semester, six Thai students are offically enrolled in MHAM namely; Nicharee Sutthiprapa, Boonkum Tunyaphum, Siraprapa Panyapian, Anantha Srikhao, Chanikan Mongkol and Chulalak Trikul. Panyapian, Srikhao, Trikul and Tunyaphum were present during the said visit and expressed their concerns on their native tongue.

Last year, it was the Ambassador of the Royal Kingdom of Thailand, His Excellency Thanatip Upatising, visited at MHAM in a courtesy call accompanied by the Honorary Royal Thai Consulate in Cebu.

In an interview with the Thai Ministry of Council, it is the Consular’s responsibility to check the Thai nationals who are outside their country especially the students from various academic institutions.

“We are here for a Consular visit from the Consular Section from the embassy of Thailand and our purpose is to visit our Thai nationals abroad. The students here are Thai people and it is our duty to look after them so we come to visit them to see how they are. This is our main duty from the Consular and it is my fourth time of coming here”, said Taphaopong in an interview.

The discussion was followed with a brief tour within the school premises together with the Thai students who also conveyed their favorable concerns to the Thai delegates. This year’s Consular visit was accompanied by the Honorary Royal Thai Consulate Cebu representative. (Ana Liza Abao)
