With Dr. Abelardo Alera of the Department of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology…

According to Dr. Abelardo Alera who started his teaching career in MHAM eleven years ago, the batch ILLUSTRE did well in his Pathology class when they were still in the second year.

“I feel happy for them because after how many years of sacrifices and sleepless nights here they are as a class, ever ready to conquer their future as doctors. Finally, and at the end of the day, they made it”, Dr. Alera said in an interview.

A dedicated professor and mentor rolled in one, Dr. Alera cited that he fervently hope for a hundred percent result in the Physician Licensure Examination for batch ILLUSTRE. “My advice to them is be to keep on going and to keep on improving towards their residency training and especially for the board exam”, he added.

Over the years, some of the MHAM graduates eventually paid back to their Alma Mater in order to teach and became part of the line-up of faculty-doctors. To date, a roster of traditionally committed and passionate faculty is mostly from its alumni.

Known by his exemplary performance and contribution in the Student Council during his governance, Nur-Jhun Salik, in a separate interview stated that he was extremely happy for their batch with such colorful journey rooted from their sacrifices, collaborative effort and cooperation in the realization of their dreams.

His legacy in the Student Body and in keeping the MHAM mission and projects in the service of humanity ever alive and active have been praised by those who have known him as a selfless student leader. Forever grateful for having been able to serve without counting the cost, his leadership is often channeled from an innate charism that he possessed. With pride and honor for handling the Student Council with honest, transparent and productive service, Salik, as he is fondly called, has been commended by the school administration for his valuable efforts during his term.

With the Class President and former Governor of the Student Council, Datu Nur-Jhun Salik…

“I am very overwhelmed and feeling blessed for having been able to realize this special event of our lives prior to our graduation even with the fact that some of our batchmates went home already right after we finished our clerkship but they came back just to be here tonight. As a batch, we aim to deliver a one hundred percent passing rate in the board exam although we may not be able to produce a topnotcher from the class”, 30-year old Salik said.

Words from a dauntless datu to a dynamic student-leader, Datu Nur-Jhun Salik…

Expected to graduate with one hundred seventy-four future doctors from the class, Salik could not contain his heartache and sadness as one of their batchmates and a competent physician-to-be, Amy Therese G. Cabataña, passed away with such untimely and gruesome death that shocked the whole MHAM community. “We look forward to attach the two signifying letters after our names as our ultimate achievement but as a batch we are not 100% happy for our graduation because we know the fact that we lost Amy but somehow we can feel that she is happy in the afterlife to see her batchmates during our graduation day”, he concluded.

As a tribute to the undue passing and in acknowledging her part with the rest of the graduating class, a video presentation was shown for their beloved Amy, who could have been a possible topnotcher as accorded by many.

From the latin word “Illustris” which means to shine brightly, the batch ILLUSTRE aspires to become an inspiration by all as they put it into words in a form of a song titled, ‘Instruments of Grace’, becoming their graduation song. United with goals within reach, the class of 2018 will soon become the instruments of grace with one true purpose in the service of humankind. (Ana Liza Abao)
