Driven by his passion to serve and not to be served, the MHAM Student Council External Vice-President and the official representative to the APMC-SN, William C. Tiu Jr., proves once again that the MHAM SC officers are governed with strong-willed leadership goals, as he serves being the Regional Chairman for Organizational Development for APMC-SN.

“The Tambayayong 2017 was indeed significant as the discussions held during the APMC-SN National Planning and Evaluation Seminar (PLEVSEM) last June 2017 in Cavite City was being reechoed. It brings the APMC-SN to the local medical student councils so that they may become familiar with the goals, objectives and common processes of the APMC-SN. Activities such as project proposal making, budgeting and project pitching were some of the highlights of the event. The summit also opens the academic year by fostering camaraderie among the different medical student councils to collaborate easier in the upcoming APMC-SN activities and projects. Having been committed as a regional officer, my committee is tasked to empower and capacitate the medical student councils and organizations so that they may serve their fellow medical students better”, said Tiu.

This sophomore student also added that the Tambayayong summit empowers every student council officer to reach the full potential towards genuine leadership and the ability to empower others. “It is also MHAM’s pride to have Mel Karl Sabal and Keren Eulyna Bicar- two batch Nexus students who serve as national officers in the APMC-SN. As a medical student-leader, this network is very important because it allows me to communicate with other medical student councils. We get to share the best practices and address common issues among our schools. The APMC-SN also provides activities that cater to the holistic development of the medical student such as the Medlympics, Medical Quizbees, MedGroove, MedRhythmia and other signifying activities, he concluded.

One Visayas, One APMC…
Meanwhile, this year’s APMC-SN Secretary General for Visayas, Mel Karl Sabal, also expressed his valuable insights with profound commitment during the medical students’ summit.

“The summit had series of lectures on project management, finance management, project proposal making, marketing and advocacies. The event was capped with the participants pitching their project proposal that was the output of the different workshops of the event. This event aims to help medical student leaders to prepare their council and other school organizations for this school year through leadership and management trainings, team buildings and breakout sessions. This also serves as an avenue for the rest of the student-leaders to meet their regional officers and learn about the activities prepared for the region. The APMC-SN summit also aims to tighten the linkage among the seven medical schools here in Central Visayas”, said Sabal.
The 2day summit was also graced by the invited speakers including the founder of HyperCebu, Matthew Basabe; the President of Volunteer Youth Leaders for Health (VYLH), Christian Emmanuel Enriquez; and the Dean of UC-SOM, Dr. Ma. Melfer Montoya.
Organized into a general assembly type structure quite similar to the United Nations, the APMC-SN is an assembly of Philippine medical students represented by their respective Medicine Student Council working in partnership with the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges Foundation to promote an active role for students in the development of medical education.
