Student Council Chronicles: Creating more leaders through excellence

The newly-elected and appointed SC Officers for S.Y. 2017-2018

In its unrelenting effort to keep up good governance for the Student Body, the MHAM CM Student Council welcomes the newly-elected and appointed officers for the S.Y. 2017-2018.

Chosen by the majority during the Students’ Election Day last March 1, 2017, the Student Council has officially named the following to continue to empower and create more leaders, including nine appointed officers. This school year, Louie Lopez will lead the SC as the new Governor;  Amer Hussein Domado as Executive Vice-President; Andrea Marie Tortugo as Internal Vice-President; William Tiu Jr. as External Vice-President APMC-SN Representative; Hanan Doro as Secretary; Rashila Lamping as Assistant Secretary; Mary Louise Sereno as Auditor; Irish Lontoc as Treasurer; Val Acosta as Assistant Treasurer; and Marco Lope, Hisham Guinar, Antonio Miguel Reyes, Patrick Daniel Lagarnia, Kim Michael Pabatang, Alawi Abdulrhaman, Sittie Nohaimah Iggo, Marc Vision Capunong and Nohah Radiamoda as Public Relations Officers, respectively.

“They rise to create more leaders. They can, and they will”…

As good governance is expressed through accountability and reliability in both ways, this twenty-three year old sophomore student from Puerto Princesa City wanted the new governance to be flexible on their plans and objectives based on the interests of the greater good of the MHAM Student Body throughout the academic year.

Louie Lopez: Leadership through Excellence

“I wasn’t expecting to win since I was an independent candidate. I just brought it into prayer that I will be able to put up a good fight for having been inspired that my section II-D supported me all the way. Having been chosen by the majority is indeed overwhelming but for me, the title means a big responsibility and a reminder that I have a duty to fulfill. I have repeatedly emphasized during the election campaign period that my vision for the whole studentry is for them to excel and realize their full potential through positive support and motivation by reviving the MHAM Study Clubs to conduct tutorial lessons before the major examinations. Moreover, it is my earnest desire to push through the Medical Book Assistance to all students”, said Lopez.

A recipient of the Palawan Provincial Government scholarship program, this new SC Governor presented his proposed projects for his term which includes the Medical Book Assistance to be availed by students with highest average from major examinations and the installation of lockers in the new school building. In addition, his point plan lists also includes the tutorial lessons dubbed as “By the Students, and for the Students” which will be spearheaded by the Academic Committee and the Student Lounge, to complete the list.

Newly-elected SC Governor, Louie Lopez in an interview

“Having been with the SC under the guidance of incumbent Governor Datu Nur-Jhun Salik as an Auditor last year, I already have an idea of the magnitude of work and responsibilities of being a Governor however, I am pretty much prepared for that part. What is more challenging with a bit fear on my part is the thought of meeting the expectations set by the previous administration which might lead to pressure. We are hoping that by the end of our term and service as officers, we will be able to match or even exceed what the previous officers have executed. Moreover, we are hopeful that we will be able to make a difference not only in MHAM but also in our community”, he added.

“They are called, and they are chosen”…

Challenged to set value-led examples and to create more leaders in the future in the name of service, the new set of officers are confident enough to continue the legacy of good governance from the previous MHAM leaders, with the cooperation and support from the Student Body.

WEAREMHAM leaders

Needless to say, the MHAM CM’s Student Body has contributed countless projects and initiated several significant missions especially in reaching out to the less fortunate in the neighboring communities. Rising firm with strong-willed leadership goals, these officers are now ready to keep the ability to empower others; not to create followers, but to create more leaders through the years. (Ana Liza Abao)
